Besiktas are eyeing up a surprise move for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
The Turkish side are in the hunt for a replacement for Cenk Tosun, who is on the verge of a £27 million move to the Reds’ local rivals Everton. With Tosun’s departure from Istanbul nearing its completion this week, the Super Lig side have stepped up their search for his direct successor.
According to Fanatik, Sturridge is emerging as one of the players Besiktas are currently assessing and initial negotiations have been positive.
The report states that the striker would initially move on loan for £1.8m, with the opportunity to make the move permanent for £13m this summer.
Sturridge is keen to leave Anfield in his search for regular first-team football.
He has found himself down the pecking order and is concerned that a lack of playing time will ruin his chances of going to the World Cup with England.
Other clubs are understood to be joining Besiktas in the hunt for his signature, with Newcastle, Southampton and West Ham all credited with interest.
