Jürgen Klopp will surely be looking to bolster his defensive ranks further still at Anfield this summer, as he looks to build a squad who are finally ready to mount a sustained push for the Premier League title.
The German will be keen on adding another top class centre-half to play alongside Virgil van Dijk next season, and with this in mind, he should consider a move for Atletico Madrid ace José Giménez.
The Uruguay international has established himself as one of the continent’s best defenders in recent years, under the guidance of Diego Simeone.
Playing alongside Diego Godin, he has learnt from arguably the best man-marker in the game, and at just 23, he possesses the potential to go and and become a truly world class player.
Gimenez won’t come cheap, however. He has a €65 million (£57.3 million) release clause inserted into his current contract with Atleti, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
Considering that the Reds paid £75 million for Van Dijk’s signature, though, they would surely not shy away from the 23-year-old’s release clause.
Gimenez is quintessentially South American, what with his aggressive approach to defending, and that would serve him really well, if he did end up moving to the Premier League.
The Uruguay international still has plenty of years ahead of him before he even reaches his prime, and if Klopp does manage to bring him to Anfield this summer, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Liverpool. / source – Here
